About Me

My photo
This is written by a city girl born and raised in Los Angeles, California. I'm an aspiring Journalist. I may not know about politics, rocket science or calculus but if here is one thing I know a lot about, it's music. This blog will feature new music, new bands that are worthy of your attention, concert reviews, photos from the many shows I go to, and album reviews. Any suggestions? Leave a comment.

Appologies.

I did not realize that I neglected my blog for so long. I do not have many followers, yet. So it may not matter to anyone. But the point of this blog it not to become the next Internet phenom, those are not my intentions at all believe me. My only intention is to write about what I know best; music.
So while I have been away I have seen Morrissey in concert, twice. And might I say, he is amazing. He is rumored to retire, but I hope he doesn't, he still sounds incredible. I have seen Friendly Fires as apart of the Nylon Winter Music Tour. They keep getting better and better. And who can resist cute British boys?

I have come to love

A band called 'Hadouken' from the UK.
Photobucket
Their beats are hypnotizing and are unlike anything I've ever heard before. They're fresh, young and extremely talented individuals. I found them via nme.com a couple years back and have been in love ever since. I cannot wait for them to come to make their U.S. tour debut. They're the kind of band who have this raw energy and would put on a fantastic show. It would be impossible to stand still.
Photobucket
They have one album out titled 'Music For An Accelerated Culture' available through itunes and they have recently released their single and an EP today titled 'M.A.D.' also available through itunes. I've heard it, verdict: I love it.

Please support the band. Don't pirate their music.

Noel Gallagher Leaves Oasis

Noel left Oasis.

bummerrrrrrrr.

Well, at least I got to see them before they broke up.

Last year when i had seen them, I had heard that not only were they not staying on the same floor of the hotel, they were staying in different hotels all together. And while they were on stage, Noel wouldn't even look at Liam.

I was reading an interview in NME last week how Noel said it takes "More than blood to be my brother", in reference to Liam. For the sake of music, can't they just get a long?

I'm sure they'll get back together. I swear if they weren't brothers, I would think they're an old married couple.

Franz Ferdinand @ The Hollywood Palladium

For those of you who were not lucky enough to get your hands on some tickets or were hesitant, you missed a GREAT show. The newly remodeled Hollywood Palladium on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood is one of my favorite places to watch a concert. It's intimate, newly restored and has great lighting.

The band played a total of 17 songs. I think they balanced the albums pretty well. They played a handful from each album and my Franz pallet was satisfied.

Before the show, I got to meet Nick McCarthy (keyboard/guitar/backing vocals), my favorite member of Franz Ferdinand as he was walking down Sunset Boulevard.

He is the nicest celebrity/musician I have ever met. He's kind, sweet and a bit of a flirt if I may add.

Set List:
  1. Bite Hard
  2. The Dark Of The Matinée
  3. No You Girls
  4. Van Tango
  5. This Fire
  6. Turn It On
  7. Can't Stop Feeling
  8. Walk Away
  9. Do You Want To
  10. Take Me Out
  11. What She Came For
  12. The Fallen
  13. 40'
  14. Outsiders
  15. Encore:
  16. Michael
  17. Darts Of Pleasure
  18. Ulysses
  19. Auf Achse
  20. Lucid Dreams

Friendly Fires @ The El Rey Theater

This was my first time seeing friendly Fires live, and I loved every minute of it. I wanted to see them the last time they came to LA at the Troubadour but it sold out. Anywho, I got my best friend tickets as apart of her birthday gift and I'm so glad I did. They came out with a raw energy, they got the crowd dancing and jumping. Lead singer Ed McFarlane has big stage presence and his dance moves although may be odd to some, suit him well and he looks rather cute doing them. I guess it's just something you have to see for yourself. They played the entire first album including their new single "Kiss Of Life".

Friendly Fires are coming back to Los Angeles in November and are playing @ The Music Box.

troubled with what to wear?

Dressing up for a show can be difficult; especially for those who don't want to loose their sense of style. Our sense of style shouldn't have to be sacrificed just because we enjoy being in the pit and on general admission floors at concerts. Wearing a band shirt and jeans are dead. wearing the shirt of the band you like to their concert is too typical. I avoid that as best I can.
It is even harder for girls. Girls like to look cute wherever they go, especially to a show.
When it comes to picking out the right shoes, I would say it's the most difficult part. Flats are your enemy on a standing room only floor. They come off too easily and are extremely painful when you plan to be standing on your feet for a long time.
For concerts, I recommend these:
Photobucket
BDG Suede Studded Boot org. $88 on sale now for $48

I own these exact boots and I LOVE them. They go with a lot of things like dresses, shorts, pants, etc. They are extremely comfortable and they're worth every penny. since they're suede, if they get wet, they'll dry up and won't get damaged. They come in a variety of colors: tan, gray, chocolate and black.

Jeans. These are tricky as well. you wouldn't normally think that jeans would be tricky, I wouldn't either if I hadn't experienced what I did. When I saw Arctic Monkeys, I had my cell phone in my pocket, somehow through the madness of the crowd, it slipped out and I never saw it again. So this is why, I only wear LEVIS to concerts where I know the show will be crazy. Levis Jeans have deep pockets so your phone, money, etc. will not slip out.
I recommend Levis SKINNY 524 . They're the best Jeans I have ever owned.
Photobucket
On Sale for $32 on levis.com with free shipping for those who are making their first online order through levis.com

For a show where a concert is sure to be wild and energetic, I recommend American Apparel Tri-Blend Short Sleeved V necks. The Tri-Blend V Necks are extremely soft and light weight and breathable. I own about 3 of these and love them. They go perfectly with a pair of skinny jeans and boots, or with a high waisted skirt and flats.
Photobucket
$22 is what one of these v necks will cost you on americanapparel.net, which might be a little steep for just a v neck, but they're so comfortable and durable, you wont be sorry.

A lot of shows are held outdoors, so why be stuck in jeans and t's right? Which is why I like to wear the BDG Tank dress & BDG Tank Jumper.
Photobucket
The BDG Tank Dress is currently on sale for $25 on urbanoutfitters.com and comes in a variety of colors.
Photobucket
BDG Tank Jumper is $20 on urbanoutfitters.com comes in 3 colors. It is extremely comfortable.

The Tri Blend Cardigan
Best Cardigan I have ever owned! it is perfect for after a concert. after a show you're sweaty and hot, but when you step outside, you need a little light sweater, and this is when the Tri-Blend Cardigan comes in handy.
Photobucket
I own it in the athletic grey and athletic blue. My favorite one is the athletic grey because it goes with everything. I wear it with dresses, jeans, it goes with just about everything. it is $44 on americanapparel.net, it's expensive for what it is, but I don't regret it. I wear it often and it still looks really good.

After almost loosing my purse at a concert, I vowed to never take a purse to a show ever again. But come on, I'm a girl, that's a promise I cannot keep. I'm a purse and shoes kind of gal, and it's hard to resist cute purses. So now, I take a small bag that can be crossed over that holds all my necessary items such as my phone, wallet and keys and I am good to go.
I liked bags like the one shown, it's small but holds everything I need.
Photobucket
This bag is by Deena & Ozzy and is $15 on urbanoutfitters.com

Appologies.

I have been away for a bit, I was on vacation in New York City.

updates to follow shortly.

Paul McCartney, "I'm not retiring"

In recent news, Paul McCartney has declined tabloid rumors that this world tour would be his last.

"All I can say is that I'm not retiring," he confirmed. "It's like 'Paul is dead'. 'No, I'm not,' is all I could say. I did talk about retirement in one sentence in one story and only to say 'No way, Jose.' But someone must have only read part of that one sentence."

Friendly Fires: Kiss Of Life

'Kiss Of Life' Friendly Fires new single from their new album (released August 31st).
I'm obsessed with this video for two reasons: the song is very catchy, and Ed McFarlane's dance moves are adorable. His blue eyes are hypnotizing. Friendly Fires are coming to Los Angeles: August 23rd they will be at The Glass House in Pomona, August 24th they will be at the El Rey, and they will be on the Jimmy Kimmel show August 25th for free.

Arctic Monkeys: Humbug

The new Arctic Monkeys album leaked a lot sooner than expected, but I guess you know you've made it when people cannot wait to get your album.

'Humbug' is one of the most beautiful albums I have heard in a really long time. It's completely different from their previous two albums, but I like the drastic change. The album shows Alex Turner's growth as a song writer and musician.

My favorite tracks on the album are 'Cornerstone', 'Secret Door', 'Dance Little Liar' & 'Fire and the Thud'.

This album is a lot darker and a lot mellower than anything I've ever heard them do before.

I've heard from a few friends that they don't like it because it's different, but I like it because it's different.

9/10
